Every person related to horses and experience with them knows what ammunition a four-legged friend needs and what a rider needs for the comfort of man and animal. All equipment can be divided into several subgroups:
- Means to control a horse;
- Items that ensure the safety and protection of the horse;
- Things for a comfortable ride on horseback;
- The purpose of the horse, the individual requirements of the rider, the pedigree characteristics of the animal can significantly expand the list of necessary equipment.
Horse Harness Ammunition
Horse Bit. To control the horse, the rider uses the physiological features of the jaw of the animal. On the gum, there is a toothless edge where the snaffle (or bit) is inserted. It consists of 2 rings and nibbles, thanks to which the horse is controlled. With iron, you can slow down or stop a horse. The chew is putting pressure on the jaw.
Iron for the horse. The snaffle is selected individually for each horse, since It may have a different shape and severity. Iron cannot be bought just because they liked the look. It is important to remember that the snaffle is in direct contact with the mouth of the animal, and if there is any discrepancy, it can cause discomfort and pain in the horse. It is recommended to choose the softest iron: the thinner it is, the more severe is the bit.
Headband (or bridle). The bridle has many targets, but the main function is iron support. Thanks to the snaffle and the reins, the rider can transmit commands to the horse.
Bridle. There are various types of bridles that are used in sports, horse trekking, and with the arrival of young horses.
Occasion. This is a leather strap, which is fastened to snaffle rings. It allows the rider to maintain contact with the horse’s mouth. The occasion is necessary to control the front of the horse’s body and refers to the main controls. With the help of an occasion, the direction of movement, the stop of the horse, and the transition from a fast gait to a slower one are set. The position of the head and neck of the mount is regulated.
Halter. This part of the equipment is similar to the bridle, only iron is absent here. A halter is needed to move a horse from one place to another, to carry out veterinary activities, to clear its hooves, etc. Using a halter, you can lock the horse in the stable aisle using straps. Another detail of this ammunition is Chembur (rope), with which the horse is tied or moved from place to place.
Martingale. The tool does not allow the horse to throw his head. The ammunition consists of two straps, thanks to which the horse’s head is held and the rider is protected from the back of the horse’s head. The martingale is attached to the girth, on the chest, it is divided into a pair of belts with rings through which the reins are pulled, in front of the rings, closer to the gland, they wear special stoppers that do not allow the rings to slide off to the snaffle buckles.
Chambon. It refers to interchanges and is an elongated strap. The device is used during training so that the horse’s head is fixed in the desired position. Chambon clips on to the girth and gland pass under the headband on the cheek strap. Chambon has a fundamental difference with the martingale and does not limit the ability of the horse to stretch its neck. Thanks to this ammunition, an excessive load is removed from the horse’s back.
Saddle. This piece of equipment serves to protect the spinal section of the horse, but the comfort of the rider is in second place. If the saddle is not used, then the horse’s back will be under greater pressure than with it. Thanks to this ammunition, the rider’s weight are evenly distributed throughout the horse’s hull. The saddle must be chosen individually for each horse. Much depends on the length of the saddle, the height of withers and other important parameters. Saddles are of the following types: English, Asian, Western, Spanish, Ladies, Sidesaddle. The saddle is chosen according to the use of the horse. For various types of equestrian sports, as well as for walking or racing, there are special saddles. Versatile and multifunctional products are not as good as they seem, and therefore it is better to have several saddles for various tasks that will be put before the horse. A major role is played by the manufacturer. If you have financial opportunities, it is better to choose a foreign option.
Stirrups. This is the main part of the saddle. They serve to fix the rider’s legs and maintain balance when practicing horse riding. Initially, stirrups were hinges, which was an uncomfortable and unsafe option. To date, there are a large number of different stirrups of various shapes.
Whip. This device is an auxiliary element for controlling the horse. The main task of the whip is to strengthen the rider’s team. At official competitions, the whip can be used with a lot of restrictions, and in some sports, it is generally prohibited to use. To reduce the impact, the whip at the end has a special cracker. When riding a riding stick, the whip should be in the hand that looks into the center of the arena.
Scourge. You can imagine it as a stick with a long rope about two meters. This tool is used when working with a horse on the cord. The scourge has a handle and a rope, which ends with a knot imitating the sound of a click. As a means of punishment, scourges are rarely used; when working in their hands, they help a person set a direction for the horse, to translate from the pace to the pace.
Spurs. They serve to enhance the impact of the rider Shenkel when riding and are put on their feet. The design and length of the spurs can be varied. To date, it is forbidden to use spurs with wheels, which injure the skin of horses on the sides.
Blankets. They are a universal invention that allows an animal to feel warm and dry. They are used in transporting animals or in a stable if temperature extremes are expected. For manufacturing is a warming wool fabric. For fixing the blankets on the body of a horse, there are special fasteners and belts. The cloth is a protective blanket, which is used for heating in the cold season. When caring for a horse, it can be washed frequently, which reduces the amount of protective fat, and therefore the animal will need additional protection.
Winter blanket. The blankets are sewn according to the climatic features and the physiology of animals. There is a huge number of different blankets suitable for all life situations: Walking, Night, Rain, Working, Winter. For a horse, it is recommended to have several variants of blankets, for example, winter, and working.
Bandages. They serve to protect the limbs and are made of cotton fabric, they protect the muscles and tendons from stretching. In winter, you can use as a means of warming the horse’s legs. For training, use knit or crepe bandages about 8 cm wide. In order not to impair blood circulation, it is important not to squeeze the limbs during bandaging. A separate requirement is put forward to the fact that between the layers of bandages there should be no gaps where dirt or soil particles fall.
Feet. Also, serve as a means of injury to limbs. Can be put on over bandages or just on the pastern area. For fixing there is a special fastener or Velcro.
Halter bed. Used in horse saddling and placed directly on the back. Performs a protective function. For the manufacture of used cotton fabric, which has a soft filler.
What does a rider need? Before you go to take lessons riding, it is recommended to purchase special things for training processes. Not all people understand the importance of clothes and shoes when riding. And this is significant since it will be comfortable for a person to interact with an animal.
Footwear. There is one requirement: it must be free to pass into the stirrups. In addition, be sure to have a small heel. Shoes with a grooved outsole and thick sole are not suitable for riding lessons. If suddenly the rider will have to fall, then the leg will be stuck in the stirrup and the person will be injured.
